Biology Question. Help?

I know crossing-over only occurs during meiosis, which maintains the haploid number. Mitosis is the diploid number and does not involve crossing-over, but does that mean you get the exact same copy of chromosomes from each parent for somatic(body) cells?? And only meiosis controls the different traits you get?
